Many may remember George Johnson who passed peacefully in the early hours of the 11th July at the age of 93.
For 26 years from 1988-2014 it was George who would ring and chase payment of our accounts. The father of Richard Johnson – our MD – and Anne Godfrey – our HR Director, George came to Midland having retired from Severn Trent Water at the age of 61. After only two weeks Richard received a heartfelt plea from his Mother to find George something to do! George is pictured below celebrating his 90th birthday with Anne and Richard.
George proved unshakeable in his pursuit of the Company’s cash – though sometimes with odd results. When Richard once met a client’s accountant he was asked if George was a relative. On hearing that was the case the redoubtable lady said “What a lovely man he is – do you know I sometimes delay our payments deliberately so that when he calls we can have a nice chat!”
George will be missed by many – in particular his 3 children, 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. We are warmed by all the kind wishes, and by the thought of him being reunited with June who passed away early in 2002. RIP George.
