As long-standing sponsors we at Midland Filtration are absolutely devastated by the passing of one of the Nottingham Panthers’ stars over the weekend in a tragic accident during a Challenge Cup game against the Sheffield Steelers.
Adam Johnson only joined us this season but had already made a large impact both on and off the ice – having played in the NHL he had brought a wealth of experience to Nottingham and was such a valued team-mate. Our hearts go out to his fiancee, family and friends as well as all members of both the Panthers and Steelers, the officials, coaching staff and spectators who had to witness such a horrific incident unfolding. We can’t being to imagine how they will be able to come to terms with what has happened but want to offer our heartfelt thoughts, condolences and support wherever we can to everyone affected.
We also hope that this tragic event will finally force the ice hockey bodies around the world to work swiftly to put in place mandatory safety neck and wrist protection to avoid the risk of anything so dreadful happening again – it’s just heart-breaking that it has taken something like this to re-raise the issue.
We hope that all involved at the weekend will be given ample time and support to come to terms with Adam’s passing and have been heartened by the coming-together of hockey fans from around the world – one family.
